Dead Fishing Boat, The Aral Sea, Kazakhstan
Soviet attempts to irrigate the cotton fields of Central Asia in 50’s decimated the Aral Sea in Kazakhstan & Uzbekistan, destroying thousands of fishing communities like Aralsk and creating a toxic desert that stil cause massive health issues today. The sudden depletion of the sea beached a bunch of ships in the 70s, which the owners tended to for over a decade in preparation for the sea’s return only to scavenge for metal & torch in the end, leaving the rusty hulks scattered across the new desert.
